Thaipusam @ Batu Caves, Malaysia - 2013

Made my way to Batu Caves at 4am via the KTM Komuter. I stopped at Taman Wahyu (one station away from Batu Caves). Wee hours + park 1 station away = best decision ever!
Batu Caves is one of the most renowned Hindu shrines located outside of India which is dedicated to the Lord Murugan.
The 5am view at the foot of the 276 steps into the caves. The Lord Murugan statue - world's tallest statue of the Lord Murugan.

Kavadi-bearers and devotees with their containers filled with milk (carried on their heads/kavadi)

 Check out the caves!!
Segregated lanes for the devotees with milk containers.
The lane continues. Hundreds must be within the lane.
 Devotee in trance.
Devotees came in yellow mostly, some in red.
Cave had an airwell to ventilate and cool the air despite thousands there, that morning. Sky was still dark - 7am ish.
Devotee was prostrate before a templ priest
 One of the priests

The 400 million years old limestone cave with beautiful stalagmites.

A female devotee - all of them were expressionless, and looked stoned.

There were many shrines dotted along the cave passageway.

 A family of female devotees.

A female devotee. She looked fierce!! :(

Starting them young - a grandpa comforting his little angel.

More pictures here.

Highlights:
- strikes off Batu Caves from bucket list (I am no longer a Batu Caves virgin! Malaysia, truly asia... =) )
- double strike - Batu Caves during Thaipusam!
- the komuter line stopped right in front of Batu Caves!

Lowlights:
- architecture/carving of the shrines inside the caves could be more intricate
- did not see any monkeys this round
