I googled "snatch theft" and wiki appears topmost, of course. The second paragraph notes, "A growing problem in Malaysia." The third paragraph is about the increase by 118% in Argentina two years back. Is this to be how Malaysia is referenced by and seen by all?
The policemen should do something about these incidences. I am "just another stat". Never mind that the International Islamic University, University Malaya, UTAR, KDU tertiary education institutions are just down the road. I see many pedestrians (mostly students) crossing the roads every day. All it takes is just one snatch at one female pedestrian crossing the street and the theft attempt might hurl her in the fatal direction of a passing vehicle.
Pieces of shard glass went flying. If not for the safety film, I would had obtained serious injuries. Ladies, please install safety films in your cars. Installation one one window is RM150 while on all 6 panels with 8mil today is no more than RM400. Packages here and here.
The perpetrator left marks at the side of my vehicle.
The safety film that saved me more trouble if I had lost my valuables.
It's a given. The shard pieces will leave scratches on the plastic components of the interior. I am not upset that there are scratches. I feel sad for my car, as how I am scratched too and feeling violated.
No major injuries, nor major issues to the car. Only some bleeding on fingers, a scratched cheek and a blood stained phone.
A nut wrench tool was used to break the passenger window. The irony - motorbike wheels don't need this tool.
Sum up:
1. Disclaimer - Am I being a racist? - I am not saying they are of which race. They were definitely not of the Caucasian, Indian, nor Chinese race. Agreed they could had been Indonesians, Thais, Fijians or Latinos.
2. Policemen are everywhere - Every day I abide by the speed limit rules (80kmph at certain zones) and in fear of collecting speeding summons. And always making sure that I insert the parking ticket at my dashboard. Roadblocks set up to check if the car driver has renewed their road tax. BUT, motorbikes with blacked out plate numbers. That did not caught any authority's eyes?
3. So, what now? The windscreen lao pan niao tells me that she too is fearful for her safety as she sees victimes every day at her shop. It happens daily.
4. Taser guns - Tools for females to protect themselves. No, pepper spray is to ward off amok dogs, not snatch thieves with sunglasses. If they can wear a helmet and sunglasses and fully cover their face to protect themselves from being identified, how can the female defend herself? A crowbar underneath the seat? This refers to my next point.
5. Cars are not made for lady drivers - Manufacturers, please design female-friendly-cars with compartments and safety features. As you can read in wiki, this is a need and want now here.
6. When an incident like this happens, Malaysians do not need to be re-directed to another police station. NO, it does not make sense that it is not a TRAFFIC police station nor does it make sense that we stepped into the the station that does not cover that district. 15 minutes over the phone just debating whose district it falls under? Another attempt, another location, another female would had fallen victim. Worse still, because the duo failed they would attempt with vengeance.
F* off if you judge me for placing my handbag at the passenger seat. This kind of crimes shouldn't happen. It's like saying that raped victims had it coming. Period.
