Passport Renewal at Immigration Office (Kajang)

Here are some things to know about renewing a passport in Malaysia. Based on my observation during  wait time.

1. Hand in the old passport + IC to be photocopied (IC is returned when officer has made a photocopy)
2. There will be a bunch of numbers that nobody attends to. Later in the day someone will appear to claim these numbers and slip right in front of you.
3. Photos must be taken there, in dark clothing, no glasses, no coloured contact lens, with hair tucked behind the ears.
4. Fees to renew are;
5yrs - rm300 (continues fr last expiry day)
2yrs - rm150 (starts fr the day it's renewed meaning you'll burn the leftover days)
5. Get a number & wait to be called to make this payment. A receipt is given for the payment.
6. Wait further to be called when new passport is ready
7. Lastly, collect new passport + old passport (a triangle piece is clipped off on the old hardcover for you to bring home)
8. You do not need to transfer visa from old passport over to the new. Travel with both passport if, say, your US Visa page is in the old paasport.
9. While waiting out the entire process, it's generally acceptable to sneak out to have a teh tarik break (snack). It's not frown upon if you've missed your number.
10. Above all else, head out early before the office opens to get a queue number. They run out fast at popular locations e.g. Shah Alam. UEC Pudu is alright.
