Cambodia I: The uncanny 10 similarities

There are ten similarities between Penang and Cambodia. It's pretty uncanny.

1. Cambodians sure do like bananas.
Unripe GREEN bananas. What happens is this, they peel the banana, flatten it a little, skewer it and grill.

2. The streets
Looks a little like Pulau Tikus night market, no?

Night scene at corner of Street 11 and "Pub Street" Street 11
3. The traffic
Busy Siem Reap roads terrorized with bikers. See that Cambodians also park like slotted sardines .

Bikers at Siem Reap..

..park like sardines

4. The wat
Cambodia blossoms with temples. Temples dating back to centuries before, empires of old. Penang has a temple like that, at along Burmah Road.

5. The market
Walking through this morning market is deja vu of Pulau Tikus market. There are quite a few markets at Siem Reap. Morning markets. Day markets. Evening markets. Central market. Russian market. Old market. All bustling with life.

Veggie sellers

Meat sellers

6. The structures
It’s like those Chinese shop houses one finds at Georgetown or at Pulau Tikus. Simple front façade with verandah, little décor if none at all.

Buildings across Psar Chas (Old Market)

This is how their Old Market looks like. The reddish brown stuff hung onto the right side of the photo were 'lap cheungs' of all kinda meat.

7. Shoes off
Very Asian. Mama Goh instilled these in her brood as well. I was expecting shoes off in temples..but no. And the amazing part is..shoes never go missing.

8. The animals
Can be found at Botanical Gardens, yes?

Monkey grooming kitty cat
9. Lovebird along the hiking trail
Minus the flowing stream, and it reminiscents the No.3 hiking trail to Penang Hill!

She-bird scrubbing dirt off her leg leg. He-bird looks on.

10. My favourite ppl from Penang
Also found at Cambodia.

My favourite Malaysians tottering aimlessly down the road
It's like I'm back in Penang for a hol. They say, home is where the heart is. I was home <3

i'm so so pleased the holiday turned out well.

confession. i was half consciously prepared for 'the worst' outcome possible...mysterious death cases or malaysians left behind in cambodia.

i'm glad our friendship strengthened through it all.

Yes. Let's holiday again! =)
